Heart Kids

Every week, 12 babies are born with a heart defect in New Zealand. Whilst there are surgical procedures that can improve the heart's function, there is no cure for a Congenital Heart Disease (CHD).

In March 2016, 360 Logistics committed to a partnership relationship with Heart Kids New Zealand, the only charity supporting Kiwi children and families affected by CHD, right through their life.

Our decision to collaborate with Heart Kids was an easy one. After learning more about Heart Kids New Zealand, the high number of babies born with CHD every year and the lack of government funding provided to the organisation, we felt that a concentrated effort on our part would deliver many tangible benefits for Heart Kids NZ and our kiwi kids living with CHD.

Heart Kids NZ has been providing support services to children with heart conditions and their families since 1984, and we feel passionately about our commitment to this wonderful organization. In addition to our new relationship with Heart Kids NZ, we are also very excited to be the event partner for the Heart Kids NZ signature event "Heart Stopper Challenge". Every year, 450 open-heart surgeries are performed on children in New Zealand, some of them in their first days of life. During surgery, a child's chest cavity may be filled with an icy slush to slow the heart rate and metabolism, giving the surgeon a longer window of operating time. This is the inspiration for Heart Stopper Challenge where keen punters can enter in teams and take a five-minute plunge in pool filled with ice. Since its inception in 2001, Heart Stopper Challenge had attracted thousands of brave souls throughout New Zealand. It is a great way to bring family and friends together for a bit of fun while fundraising for a very worthy cause. Teams are welcome to dress up and compete against each other for fundraising dollars. The event is also excellent for corporate team building and inter-company fundraising challenges. This year our 360 branches will be entering teams so keep an eye out for us and the 360 Logistics Ford pick up truck. We will post photos and an update after the events.

More information on Heart Kids New Zealand

The needs of those with a childhood heart condition are different from the needs of those who acquire heart disease later in life. Whilst there are other organisations that focus on promoting healthy living and the prevention of heart disease acquired through lifestyle choice, Heart Kids' focus is on those who are living with a childhood heart condition that has existed from conception or as a result of rheumatic fever, cardiomyopathy, or Kawasaki disease. Heart Kids is the only organisation in New Zealand dedicated to supporting all those affected by a childhood heart condition.

Heart Kids NZ and 360 Logistics believe that no child, teen, adult or family affected by a CHD should travel the journey alone or unsupported. Heart Kids NZ is there every step of the way – from the time of diagnosis, through childhood, the teenage years, and into adulthood. Their practical and emotional support is vital for those affected, helping them to cope with the day-to-day challenges of living with a childhood heart condition.

The services Heart Kids NZ provide include (but are not limited to) information, training, counselling and psychological support, specialised equipment, camps, family matching, social affiliation, and financial assistance.
